Navigating Power and Privilege: Intersections of White Allyship in Advancing Racial Justice in Fundraising and Philanthropy
This live, two-hour workshop is designed for advancement and higher education leaders dedicated to promoting racial justice while understanding the role of white allyship within the context of fundraising and philanthropy. Leaders will explore how race, privilege, and power intersect to shape donor relationships, fundraising practices, and philanthropic structures. The workshop will also address the challenges and responsibilities that come with allyship, encouraging leaders to confront personal and institutional biases while fostering accountability and sustainable change.
During this workshop, we will examine how power dynamics influence donor interactions, funding priorities, and outcomes. Leaders will learn strategies to shift conversations with donors to focus on equity-driven giving rather than transactional philanthropy, with the intention of integrating equitable fundraising practices within their institution, ensuring that fundraising and philanthropy serve as tools for racial justice rather than perpetuating inequities. The workshop will also emphasize the importance of ongoing self-reflection to leverage your influence for meaningful allyship and transformative philanthropy.
