Generative AI is transforming the way the fundraising sector writes, researches, and reports, but using it without prompt literacy and bias literacy doesn’t just waste time; it quietly repeats the inequities that have shaped fundraising. This silent replication can manifest in donor segmentation, campaign messaging, and data interpretation, mirroring the systemic blind spots our sector is working hard to interrupt.

This two-week course introduces ethical, practical, and equity-centered AI prompting. Fundraisers, advancement professionals, prospect researchers, alumni engagement teams, and communications professionals will learn to partner with AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to streamline donor communications, segment portfolios, analyze giving data, and craft inclusive narratives without compromising humanity or reproducing bias.

Learners will receive an AI Prompting Playbook for Fundraising, equipped with prompts, frameworks, and templates ready for real-world use. *Scroll down to the bottom of this page for webinar descriptions.

  • Access to ChatGPT (any tier)
  • 2 hours per week commitment
  • No prior AI experience required

*Full participation in AI Prompting and Literacy: Ethical AI Skills for Fundraisers and Advancement Professionals is applicable for 4.0 points in Category 1.b Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.

Start with the basics, ethically. This webinar introduces the foundational skills needed to prompt AI tools, with clarity and equity in mind. Learn how to structure better prompts, generate inclusive donor messaging, and identify bias before it’s embedded into your fundraising communications.

During this webinar, learners will explore:

  • The role of AI prompting in ethical fundraising
  • Applying the C.L.E.A.R. Framework™ (Context | Lens | Equity | Action | Refinement) to build better prompts for fundraising strategy
  • Crafting inclusive stewardship messages and donor profiles
  • Detecting and correcting bias in AI outputs

Mini Lab: Learners will practice rewriting common donor-research and stewardship prompts to reduce bias and broaden representation, transforming “bias-blind” requests into bias-literate prompts that yield more accurate and inclusive results.

The C.L.E.A.R. Prompt Framework™ is a proprietary methodology developed by the Inclusive Philanthropy Institute that integrates equity-centered AI prompting practices for the fundraising sector.

This webinar moves from foundational skills to real-world application, showing learners how to integrate ethical prompting into everyday workflows. By combining critical thinking with equity-aware AI practices, learners will build the confidence to scale their prompting strategies responsibly, without compromising privacy or trust.

During this webinar, learners will explore:

  • Applying prompting to prospect research, campaign planning, and reporting
  • Reading AI outputs critically: when to trust them and when to challenge them
  • Building micro-libraries of bias-aware prompts for daily use
  • Scenario-based practice in recognizing racial or wealth defaults in AI summaries
  • Ethical decision points: privacy, voice, and data stewardship
