DEI in the Balance: Compliance vs. Commitment

As diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, initiatives, and activities face increased scrutiny, fundraisers and changemakers must navigate the challenging landscape while staying true to their commitment to inclusive philanthropy.

In this webinar, we will discuss the language used in executive orders that target DEI, the impact on fundraising and philanthropy, and how anthropology can help center humanity in this work. We will also explore what it means to acknowledge donors’ power and their role in systemic change; best practices for reframing messaging without compromising impact; and how to identify and assess potential DEI audit risks in your fundraising strategies.

Through an in-depth study of a higher education institution that adapted its DEI language but continued its commitment, learners will gain practical insights on balancing donor expectations with institutional values. Learners will also receive a DEI Risk Assessment Audit tool that can be used to provide actionable next steps and fundraising strategies.
