This two-hour workshop is designed to guide learners through the principles, strategies, and best practices of planned giving, demonstrating how it can be leveraged to address social issues, promote equitable outcomes, and encourage engagement of a diverse donor base that is motivated to establish legacies of impact within your institution, organization, and community.

The nuances of planned giving vehicles: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the benefits, tax implications, and considerations associated with each strategy as they relate to donors’ needs and concerns while using the framework of inclusive philanthropy.
Identifying overlooked opportunities through data: Learn how to effectively identify and engage potential planned giving donors within your donor base for strong pipeline and prospect development
Partnering with frontline development teams: Discover strategies for collaborating with frontline fundraisers to ensure that a planned giving strategy is integrated into every donor relationship.
Principles of race-based philanthropy: Discuss how planned giving can be utilized to support racial equity while addressing personal bias and the root causes of fear and discomfort in approaching donors of color.

Maia is committed to the study, development and implementation of inclusive philanthropic strategies that advance systemic change in higher education, university advancement and nonprofit organizations. She is a seasoned industry leader with more than 18 years of experience in the higher education and philanthropic sectors and co-founded the former Office of Inclusive Philanthropy at the Florida International University (FIU) Foundation in 2021, which was the first of its kind in the nation.
