James W. Osterholt

Of Counsel

Born and raised in southern California, Jim joined Marts&Lundy in 2012 as an Of Counsel member following a four-decade career in Advancement. He began his career in fundraising at Union Theological Seminary in 1971. In 1975, he returned to California to join UCLA where, over the course of 21 years, he served in a number of leadership roles. He began his tenure in the Health Sciences. After seven years in that area, he assumed university-wide responsibilities, ultimately serving as an Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Development Officer. During his career at UCLA, he managed a staff of more than 125 and served as Executive Director of the UCLA Foundation, the fundraising arm of the campus. During his tenure, he designed and managed The UCLA Campaign, a comprehensive $300 million effort that was at the time the largest campaign ever mounted by a public university.

Following his years at UCLA, Jim served in top fundraising positions at the RAND Corporation, the Milken Institute, The Jackson Laboratory and St. John's College, where he was Vice President during a successful $125 million campaign.

Since joining Marts&Lundy, Jim has combined his consulting practice with serving in extended transitional leadership roles for our clients.
