Cultural Philanthropy Impacted by COVID-19
Much has changed, and will continue to change, as the pandemic shifts over the coming months. At cultural institutions across North America, development teams are working to rapidly adjust engagement strategies – and are eager to share what they are doing and to learn from others in the sector. To understand how teams are maintaining and measuring fundraising success, Marts & Lundy developed a brief survey. Thirty-four organizations participated. The resulting report, while a snapshot in time, provides valuable insights into how cultural institutions are responding.
We know that many organizations are hesitant to make long-term plans as the future of audience participation – particularly in the performing arts – remains uncertain for the foreseeable future. But there is optimism as organizations try a number of new ways to engage donors and audiences with approaches such as increased digital content, re-opening using social distancing requirements and encouraging ticket holders to donate tickets back to the organization. And with the majority of organizations placing an increased emphasis on unrestricted support, there is growing latitude to adapt to a rapidly changing market.
