A year ago, we asked if 2020 would resemble any year in the history of charitable giving. We referenced analyses and insights from past events: the Great Recession, presidential elections, tax reforms.

In fact, 2020 brought both the expected and unexpected, likely making it a new reference point in the evolution of philanthropy. One that will have set in motion a new understanding of donor behavior amidst modern-day crises and the fundraising strategies critical to success in this new reality.

Our panel comprises Marts & Lundy’s most experienced senior consultants, who share their perspectives on the state of charitable giving in 2021 and the factors that will continue to shape philanthropy into the foreseeable future. The discussion is informed by the analysis of factors that influenced giving in 2020 – including findings from Giving USA 2021: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2020.
